WD050 - Beginning Flamenco Dance

with Jessica Sollee ( Flamenco USA Magazine )
Description This Flamenco dance technique class offers warmup, stretching, posture, footwork combinations, armwork, palmas & choreography, employing body, mind & spirit approach. It is theorized that the Spanish gypsy culture can be traced back to its origins in India eventually nomadically traveling and making homes in different countries until making their home in the South of Spain. It is theorized that Gypsies were influenced by Arab and Jewish cultures as can be identified in flamenco music, song and dance. Flamenco was a cultural experience and has developed into a popular dance form enjoyed by people in many different cultures. Flamenco seemed to served an important purpose of a deeply personal expression of emotion, a celebration of being human alone or in community. This deeply spiritual art form gives it a mesmerizing, profound quality. It is a vehicle that connects expression of our humanity by reaching inward and outward. A cry of song, music and body that deeply connects and exposes one's soul as in an intimate prayer.
